On Monday, residents of Anambra State’s numerous cities, towns, and villages observed the weekly sit-at-home practice with increased gusto.

This was in response to last Monday’s killings in which over five people were killed by hoodlums implementing the order in various areas across the state.

Residents of Anambra had abandoned the weekly sit-at-home protest after the Easter break, but in what appeared to be a reminder last Monday, anonymous hoodlums, presumed to be IPOB members, restarted enforcement of the practice, resulting in fatalities.

Businesses in Awka reopened skeletally, but the roads were barren of automobiles, as were most schools, marketplaces, banks, and other public areas.

Mr Ekene Eze, a journalist, believes the renewed observance of the Monday sit-at-home may be linked to the deaths last Monday.

“You know, these bad boys know what they are doing. Once people begin to think that normalcy is returning and that they can go to their businesses on Monday again, they will go to obscure places in Anambra and kill people, and the news will spread everywhere, and people will sit back in their houses,” he said.
