Former President Goodluck Jonathan has accepted the governing All Progressives Congress’ presidential nomination and statement of interest form (APC).

On Monday, a Coalition of Northern Groups picked up the presidential form on behalf of the former Nigerian leader at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

Members of the coalition told reporters after picking up the form that Jonathan is the best candidate to lead Nigeria to the next level in 2023.

Face hats and t-shirts with the slogan ‘run Jonathan run’ were seen on members of the coalition.

Jonathan’s purchase of an APC presidential nomination form puts to rest rumors that he is planning to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Jonathan, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, is only allowed to serve one four-year term as President under the constitution.

Some followers of the former Nigerian leader invaded his private office in Abuja, demanding that he run for president in 2023.

Jonathan told the protestors that the political process is still in progress and that he can’t say if he would run for president in 2023 or not.

Following this development, Jonathan will join a lengthy list of APC members vying for the party’s presidential nomination.
