Ministers and political appointees seeking elected office are expected to present copies of their resignation and acknowledgment letters to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Screening Panel.
This follows President Muhammadu Buhari’s announcement on Wednesday that all members of his government with political ambitions must quit their positions by Monday, May 16.
Following the presidential instruction, certain ministries and political appointees have begun to leave their positions.

Emeka Nwajiuba, Minister of State for Education; Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs; Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology; and Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation, are among the Cabinet members who have resigned.
Ministers and political appointees may be required to provide copies of their resignation and acknowledgment letters before being vetted by the committee, according to the article.
According to the publication, the filing of their resignation letters may be one of the extra conditions that the hopefuls must meet.
The cabinet members would have to pick up their acknowledgement letters at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, according to the party leader.

He, however, said any cabinet member who has a political ambition but refused to resign is setting himself or herself up for disqualification.
He said, “From all indications, the party will ask appointees to come with resignation letters and letters of acknowledgement. All those who refuse to resign will just be setting themselves up for disqualification.
“At this point, it will be safe for anyone who is an appointee to just resign whether you are a minister or not. I am sure the APC will be issuing a statement anytime from now on the matter.”
