President Muhammadu Buhari has urged ASUU, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, to call off the strike.

Buhari encouraged ASUU to take into account the students’ situation and end the strike.

The President made the call at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja during the 19th National Productivity Day Celebration and Conferment of the National Productivity Order of Merit Award.

He also encouraged NANS, the National Association of Nigerian Students, to be patient while the government attempts to address the problem.

Buhari recalled his February 1 order to His Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari, and the Ministers of Education and Labour and Employment, Adamu Adamu and Chris Ngige, to resolve the grievances of the striking workers’ unions.

Since February 20, 2022, ASUU has been on strike.

However, ASUU’s current roll-over strike was prolonged for another three months on Monday.

The group wants money for public university revitalization, Earned Academic Allowances, the University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS), and promotion arrears.

Renegotiation and implementation of the 2009 ASUU-FG Agreement, as well as inconsistencies in the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System, are among the others.
