Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Minister of Aviation and a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has explained why he is backing a Northern candidate.

Fani-Kayode is one of the arrowheads of Governor Yahaya Bello’s presidential campaign team, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

On Monday night, Fani-Kayode wrote on his Twitter page that the South-East, North-Central, and North-East should be given first refusal for the president.

He chastised the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly throwing their ballots open.

Fani-Kayode wrote: “Any talk of a Southern Presidency that does not offer the Igbo right of first refusal for the position is deceitful. And if you say no to the Igbos, which clearly both parties have done even if they don’t say it publicly, then I say let the Presidency go back to the North! That is why I am supporting a Northern aspirant.

“Southeners must learn to be fair to one another before they can expect to be treated fairly by others.

“There are two zones in the North that have not produced a democratically-elected President. The North-Central has NEVER done so and the North-East produced a Prime Minister 62 years ago who was unable to finish his tenure because he was killed.”

He asked that is it fair to deny them and the Igbo, who have never produced a democratically-elected President either, the right to produce the next President.

“Is Nigeria made up of only the Northwest, Southwest and SouthSouth? Are the others not human beings too?
