The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has given the Nigerian federal government a fourteen-day ultimatum over its plans to go on an indefinite strike if its demands are not satisfied.
If prompt action on the union’s demands is not taken, it will be forced to follow in the footsteps of its University equivalent.
An emergency meeting of ASUP’s National Executive Council issued the ultimatum, which was made accessible to Newsmen on Tuesday in Jalingo.

If the federal government fails to accept the union’s seven-point demand within the next two weeks, the union’s members will go on strike indefinitely.
One of the council’s primary requests, which was presided over by its president, Anderson Uzeibe, was the rapid delivery of N15 billion in polytechnic rehabilitation funding granted by President Muhammad Buhari eleven months ago.
Others include the quick payment of arrears on polytechnic employees’ increased minimum salary.
The union also demanded the federal government to resolve the problem of the polytechnic service program, which was authorized in 2017, not being released.
They also demand that the agreed retirement age and revised wage structure for polytechnic employees be implemented immediately.

They urged members of the public to lobby the federal government to do the right thing by accepting the requests within the time limit set by the union, claiming that this would help to prevent the ongoing efforts to shut down academic activity in Polytechnics around the country.
