The Department of State Services has been directed by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja to always enable the incarcerated leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to watch football matches of his choosing at any time.

On Wednesday, Kanu informed Justice Nyako that his favorite football club was Liverpool of the English Premier League.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Justice Binta Nyako playfully asked Kanu, who is facing treasonable felony charges in her court, whose football team he likes.

“What is your team?” Nyako asked.

Kanu, who was in the dock, said: “My team is Liverpool even from the age of seven.”

When Kanu’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, protested that the State Security Services (SSS) had not given him and other counsels adequate time to speak with the IPOB leader when they visited him in custody, the situation escalated.

The judge then reminded Ozekhome that he had publicly complimented the SSS for providing his client with an orthopaedic mattress, pillow, and other items.

She stated that she had previously directed that Kanu be given reasonable treatment and care while in jail, including food, clothes, and medical attention.

Nyako then went to Kanu and remarked that despite her orders, the IPOB leader continued to wear the same Fendi designers’ clothing.

Despite Kanu’s repeated appearances in court wearing the same outfit, the judge stated she saw him in the media wearing different clothes.

Nyako then questioned Kanu if, based on the designer’s clothes he was wearing to court, he was a Chelsea Football Club supporter.

The judge then instructed the SSS legal director present in court to always enable Kanu to see his favorite football club’s matches.

“You must enable the defendant to watch the matches on whatever day they are scheduled to play,” she added, adding that she will issue an order to that effect.
