The first photos from the Peoples Democratic Party’s extraordinary convention to nominate its presidential candidate for the 2023 elections have surfaced on the internet.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the PDP will hold its presidential primaries on Saturday (today) and Sunday at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, barring any last-minute changes.

Before the planned primaries, Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other members of the national convention planning committee examined the venue.

However, after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Friday that it has extended the deadline for political parties to hold primary elections ahead of the 2023 general elections, there are concerns that the major opposition party may also postpone its planned presidential primaries.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has summoned an emergency meeting to consider the possibility of postponing the party’s convention slated for today, Saturday.

The meeting’s major agenda item, according to reports, is to discuss whether the extension will give the ruling All Progressives Congress an unfair edge in the presidential election next February.

“We have strong reasons to believe that the extension was announced by INEC today to allow the APC properly digest the outcome of PDP’s convention and pick its candidate accordingly,” a PDP official with information about the meeting’s agenda told Newsmen.
