Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has confirmed his support for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the PDP convened its Special National Convention on Saturday in Abuja, where the party’s presidential flagbearer for the 2023 general election was announced.

With 371 votes, Atiku easily defeated his closest challenger, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who received 237 votes.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, unlike other PDP contestants who sent messages to the former Vice President after the primaries, Wike declined to congratulate Atiku.

Atiku met with Wike on Monday as part of the PDP’s reconciliation effort, which aims to offer the party a greater chance of defeating the incumbent All Progressives Congress in the 2023 presidential election.

Former Ekiti State Governor and PDP presidential candidate Ayodele Fayose, among other PDP leaders, attended the reconciliation gathering.

Wike promised not to quit the PDP in a tweet shortly after meeting with Atiku. “We will be completely backing Atiku,” the governor wrote.
