Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has explained why he stood out in favor of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the PDP presidential primaries.

Tambuwal withdrew away from the campaign just before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries began, and expressed his support for Abubakar, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

At the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Saturday night, he encouraged his fans to vote for the former vice president.

Governor Tambuwal’s spokesperson, Mohammed Bello, told Newsmen that his principal withdrew aside from the contest because certain contenders were buying delegates and jeopardizing the process.

Tambuwal will not participate in a heavily commercialized process, according to Bello, who added that this is not the best for the country.

He stated that the governor believed in the necessity for the PDP to unite and provide a candidate capable of saving Nigeria, and that he had urged his delegates to vote for a specific contender of his choosing.

Bello said that his boss’ desire was never a life or death situation, but rather a way to save the country from the APC-led administration’s awful governance.

The governor’s spokeswoman, on the other hand, denied claims made by some groups that the North colluded against the South during the primaries.

He said: “What happened was when he realised some aspirants were using money to induce delegates which he believes is not the best for the country; that was why he took such a decision.

“If they accuse Tambuwal of gang-up, what then happened to all the 92 votes from the South-East delegates? Why couldn’t the former Senate President, Pius Anyim, garner up to 20 votes out of 92?”
