Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has stated that critical election materials would no longer be stored at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Yakubu declared this on Saturday at an electoral forum organized by Enough is Enough called “The Electorate” (EiE).

The INEC chairman, while confirming that materials will no longer be “routed” through the CBN, also stated that the electoral organization has never had a problem with the CBN since the cooperation began.

The new regulations, according to Yakubu, would be implemented as soon as the governorship election in Ekiti state on June 16th.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, there have been requests for INEC to suspend working with the apex banks.

The demands came after the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, announced his intention to run for the presidency of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Emefiele has already taken the federal government to court to prevent his dismissal as the president of the national bank.
