The Independent National Electoral Commission said on Friday that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State had no governorship candidate for the 2023 gubernatorial election.
Mike Igini, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, confirmed this in a report sent to the electoral body’s headquarters.
“We desire to report that the APC governorship primary slated to place on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at the Sheergrace Arena, Nsikak Eduok Avenue, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State did not hold at all,” Igini said in a letter to INEC headquarters.

According to the report, a monitoring team led by Igini and including the state’s Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme, arrived to the principal site for the third time around 6:45 p.m., with no party members there.
They were told that an agitated mob of APC members were preventing APC election committee personnel from entering the main location along a major route in Uyo.
The APC election officials were eventually rescued by State Security Services (SSS) officers and transported to an SSS facility.
Tunde Ajibulu, the Chairman of the Election Committee, informed Igini that he was traumatized and unable to leave the SSS office.
He also indicated that he was unable to hold the governorship primary due to his current state of mind.
The site assigned to him by the party’s national office in Abuja was not Sheergrace Arena, according to Ajibulu.
