Valentine Obienyem, a media adviser to Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, has stated that if his principle returns to the Peoples Democratic Party, he will be rejected by Nigerians (PDP).

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, plans to meet with Obi and the NNPP’s candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to discuss forming an alliance against the APC’s nominee, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Remember that both Peter Obi and Kwankwaso were PDP members before defecting to pursue their presidential ambitions.

Obienyem told Newsmen on Friday that if Obi comes to the PDP and works for Atiku’s win, Nigerians will be disillusioned and furious.

Obienyem opined that Nigerians want change and Obi has been seen as a symbol of that change. He added that his principal was content with being the LP candidate and would win the 2023 general elections.

The media aide said he won’t rule out the possibility of his principal working with Atiku if approached to be his running mate.

He said: “If today he (Obi) says he is going back to the PDP to be a running mate, I can tell you that if he walks on the street, many Nigerians will stone him and they will see him as a disappointment. Nigerians want him and the only thing we can do for him is to encourage him to answer the call of Nigerians. So, he will contest and I’m sure he will win, all things being equal.

“Today, Nigerians want change and Peter Obi has been seen as a symbol of that change, so the issue of structure people talk about does not arise. The last time they asked him about the structure of his party, he said Nigerians across the country were the structure and that is the greatest structure.

“What is happening in Nigeria today is a peaceful revolution. Nigerians want to break away from the old order. Nigeria is ripe for a peaceful transition and Peter Obi is lucky to be at the forefront of that change.”

Onienyem said Obi would match Atiku and Tinubu in the North and other parts of the country, adding that northerners and other Nigerians were desirous of good governance.
