The Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU, has turned down an offer from Ahmed Isah, a human rights activist and radio broadcaster, to terminate the union’s prolonged strike.
According to Anaedoonline.ng, Isah, also known as Ordinary President, declared on Thursday that he wants to serve as a mediator between the federal government and the striking academics.
He vowed to assist the government in raising N18 billion to end the ASUU strike within two weeks of his declaration. Isah is alleged to have instantly started a fundraising campaign on his famous radio show, Berekete Family.
On Thursday, Isah noted on the radio show that the campaign was not intended to criticize the administration, but rather to encourage its attempts to resolve the issue.
However, ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, who was at the Berekete radio studio this morning, announced that the union would distance itself from the campaign and that its name should be removed.
