The Church declared that victims of the gruesome mass shooting and bomb assault at a Catholic church in Owo, Ondo State, will be given a mass burial on Friday, June 17, 2022.

Recall that on Sunday morning, June 5, 2022, terrorists invaded the St. Francis Catholic Church, killing at least 40 people.

The Church was about to complete its service for the day when the gun-wielding terrorists invaded the church and began firing at the worshipers, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

Several individuals were hurt in the incident, and several are being treated at the Federal Medical Center and St. Lois Catholic Church in Owo, as well as other private institutions in the state.

The dead will be buried on Friday, according to a statement released by the Diocese of Ondo’s Director of Social Communication, Rev. Fr. Augustine Ikwu, on Monday, June 13.

According to the director, the mass burial would take place in a new cemetery on Emure Road in Owo.

As far as Anaedoonline.ng knows, no one has been detained in connection with the attack, and no organization has claimed credit for the horrible crime.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has canceled this year’s June 12 festival in the South West state in honor of the occurrence and to express his condolences to the victims’ families.

Akeredolu in a tweet via his Twitter handle during the weekend said the cancellation was in honour of the victims of the terrorist attack.

The governor said the state will not be celebrating this year’s Democracy Day rather the people of the state would continue to mourn the deceased.

“In honour of the victims of the terror attack at St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, the Ondo State Government has cancelled this year’s June 12 celebration.

“The cancellation is to enable the people of Ondo State to mourn their loved ones who lost their lives in the horrific attack,” he wrote.
