LATEST: Chicason Group Trains Over 100 Persons On Plastic Waste Recycling

One hundred and twenty (120) people are now receiving training in plastic trash recycling and management in Anambra state from Chicason Plastic Recycling Hub,  a project co-sponsored by the German government via DEG Developp.

The ongoing training tagged “Chicason plastic recycling hubs project” is born out of the need to tackle environmental problems caused by the inappropriate disposal of plastic wastes in the country.

The effort, which is now concentrated on states in the Southeast, is expected to last three months.

After completing their training, students will start their own plastic waste management projects, which will improve the environment while also providing a means of making money.

Speaking on the economic benefits of the training, the head of sales,Chicason group, Mr Chijioke Udeze, highlighted the benefits of the training, chief of which is income creation.

In his words: ” As part of the essence of this training, we are empowering them with knowledge and skills required to assist the recycling sector in reproducing quality plastics for the end users and, in solving environmental problems of waste dumps, flood and erosion.

“After empowering them, the project will also help trainees in financing their initial take off capital.

According to Udeze, “there’s a lot that can be done. The value chain associated with this project will be beneficial, not just only to the trainees but to the Chicason group.

The Commissioner for environment of Anambra state, represented by the head of Anambra State Waste Management Authority ( ASWAMA), Mr Mike Ozoemena lauded the efforts of project organisers – Chicason group and partners organisers of the training while assuring all of the support of the Soludo led administration in absorbing successful trainees in relevant government parastatals.

Speaking on the role of continuous environmental education in Africa, the managing director of Carbon Africa, Chizoba Ngozi Adigwe buttressed the importance of carrying out hands-on practicals and training of this sort that would help build a safer, healthier planet.

“We are also giving them certain training on environmental protection, climate change because we found out that here in Africa, we don’t have that education being put through at school level, so, a lot of people are ignorant as to basic climate change and environmental protection theories and concepts

“We try to introduce that to our trainees here and then we are building a safe and secure environment here where they can work, she further stated.

She also mentioned that the training currently covers three states; Anambra, Abia and Enugu with 40 trainees from each state.

During the training, one of the participants, Mr Shedrack Uchenna Edward expressed joy on the opportunity to be part of the training as he expressed determination to apply all he is learning to his profession as a scientist.
