According to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu, its national chairman, has not been removed from office.

This was announced in a statement released on Wednesday by the main opposition party’s national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba.

The declaration came in response to a social media rumor that the National Working Committee, or NWC, of the party had suspended the National Chairman following the national convention.

The story, according to the PDP, is entirely untrue and merely a figment of the mind of troublemakers hoping to undermine the party.

“It is clear that the false report is the handiwork of vicious anti-people forces who are agitated by the stability, unity, and soaring popularity of our party under the cohesive Sen. Dr. Ayu-led National Working Committee, as well as the intimidating stature of our Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates, His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar and His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, respectively,” the statement said.

The party’s official also said that Ayu is taking a little holiday abroad.

He emphasized that the Chairman has temporarily delegated authority to Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum, the Deputy National Chairman (North), in accordance with the party constitution.
