According to report, at least seven victims of the terrible terrorist attack on a train traveling between Abuja and Kaduna on March 28, 2022, were reunited with their families on Saturday.

Recall that in the attack that took place in Katari, Kaduna State, Nigeria, more than three months ago, numerous people were slain and kidnapped.

While keeping some of the victims in their den and making hostile demands to the federal government, the attackers had earlier released some of the victims.

But on Saturday (yesterday), according to Nreport, the chief mediator, Malam Tukur Mamu, who works as a media consultant for a well-known Islamic cleric named Sheikh Gumi, was able to reconcile seven more victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack with their individual families.

While delivering the victims to their respective families, Mamu asked Nigerians to applaud Yobe State’s executive governor, Mai Mala Buni, for the critical part he played in securing the release of the prisoners.

The victims reportedly persisted on following Mamu to his Kaduna office where they were accorded a warm welcome and reunited with their family members despite reports that the Nigerian Army officials wanted to keep the liberated victims in their custody.

Mamu claimed that the rescued captives immediately rejected military attempts to seize control of them.

“They accused the government of putting their lives in danger and unnecessarily delaying their release and insisted on getting to their families immediately to be able to have urgent medical attention in view of their health condition,” Mamu said.

Mamu reported that it was more than 50 kilometers without an access route from the isolated spot where the prisoners were safely secured.

He acknowledged that after the victims were recovered, the army gave them security protection as they were being returned to Kaduna.

One of the victims who had been liberated, Sadiq Ango Abdullahi, the son of the chairman of the Northern Elders Forum-NEF, remarked to journalists, “The troops were substantial enough to hand us over to Tukur Mamu when we maintained that we will not go with them. He has successfully completed the most challenging task, thank Allah ( thanks to Allah). We were all brought to his office, and even before that, he had called every member of our family to arrange for a pickup.

After spending months in the kidnapper’s den, Sadiq Ango expressed thankfulness to Allah and Mamu for their sacrifices and efforts in securing their release.

He asserts that given their declining health, the Federal Government should step up efforts to ensure that the surviving passengers are saved as soon as feasible.

Mamu clarified, however, that during the negotiation they solely used the power of discourse and persuasion, making it clear that no ransom was paid.
