Senator Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has commented on the crisis roiling the organization and stated that party members should not be concerned.

Recall that Atiku Abubakar won the PDP’s presidential primary, beating out candidates including Governor Nyesom Wike, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Governor Bala Mohammed, and many others to secure the opposition party’s nomination. This is when the PDP’s crisis began.

Asserting that the party’s presidential candidate, party chairman, and Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman, Walid Jubrin, cannot all come from the same zone, supporters of Governor Wike have demanded the resignation of Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

While Wike and his supporters demand that Ayu be removed in order to restore harmony within the opposition party, Atiku and his supporters argue that Ayu must stay in office at least till the 2023 elections.

On Friday, Ayu, who left on vacation on June 21, arrived home.

Senator Ayu calmed party concerns over his absence by speaking to Newsmen.

The PDP chairman urged party members not to lose their cool, stressing that the organization was still strong and formidable.

He said, “I am back from my vacation, and I will resume on Monday. There is nothing to worry about in our party. Our party remains strong and formidable.”
