Elder statesman Tanko Yakasai applauded Bola Ahmad Tinubu’s selection of Kashim Shettima as his running mate as the presidential candidate for the All Progressive Congress, APC.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Tinubu named the former governor of Borno State as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election on Sunday.

The APC presidential candidate explained why he ultimately decided on a Muslim-Muslim ticket, saying his choice of Shettima was made after extensive deliberation with party officials and members.

Yakasai defended Tinubu’s decision to nominate a different Muslim as his vice presidential candidate in an interview with Newsmen.

The wise man asserted that the Muslim-Muslim ticket may triumph in any presidential election and praised the choice of Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate as a wise and well-considered one.

But he allayes Nigerians’ fears that the Muslim-Muslim ticket poses a danger to the country’s unity and general well-being.

He said: “We have had it before, MKO Abiola and Kingibe, and they won the election. It’s just that the military cancelled the election, but they won. The Muslim-Muslim ticket can win an election in Nigeria.
