Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President for Media and Publicity, asserted on Monday that President Muhammadu Buhari is under pressure to amend the Nigerian Constitution.
Shehu claims that the persuaders are urging him to seek reelection for a third time.
The presidential aide while speaking on Channels TV said, “In fact, from 2019, we have seen persuaders come before our very eyes and tell us that leaders should not go; that term limits are a nuisance and should be eliminated.”

Shehu, however, withheld information on who was behind the appeal and whether the president has the backing of the National Assembly to seek reelection.
Shehu stated that President Buhari is eager to leave office in 2023 in response to the push for a second term.
He said, “But Buhari wants to make the point that ‘I am not here to stay a day beyond my term of office and be sure there’ll be an election.”
Shehu pointed to the case of former President, Musa Yar’Adua, who took ill for most of his government and ruled while bedridden.
