No less than 15 members of the Mgbuji Eha-Amufu Community in the Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State were allegedly kidnapped on Monday by gunmen posing as herdsmen.

According to reports, the victims were abducted at around 7:00 am while traveling to their fields along the Mgbuji-Agu route in Mgbuji town.

A local who only went by the name Onyekachi Odo told Newsmen that about 20 armed terrorists stopped some of the villagers who were riding tricycles to their farms and kidnapped the victims and took them to an unidentified location.

Odo said, “Some of the victims, according to information reaching us, were picked on their farms.”

Chijioke Ogbodo, a spokesman for the Mgbuji Community, confirmed the kidnapping on Monday.
He bemoaned the fact that terrorists were constantly attacking and kidnapping residents “when there are security personnel there doing nothing.”

“Since they (Fulani militias) started attacking our community, neither the police nor the military had arrested any of the terrorists.

“We received the information on the attack this morning. We called all the security agents deployed to Eha-Amufu, but unfortunately they didn’t respond to our distress calls. This is our tragedy.”

However, he urged the state administration to act quickly to save the victims, claiming that their sole transgression was going to their farms to get food.

On July 5, gunmen dressed in police and military garb who were earlier assumed to be Fulani herdsmen abducted seven people from the same community and shot three more.

Mgbuji and other nearby settlements in Eha-Amufu have had numerous assaults since September 2021.
Hundreds of homes and other buildings worth millions of naira were destroyed, and numerous individuals were murdered. Many more people have also been abducted for ransom.
