The Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket has been defended by Adebayo Shittu, director general of the Asiwaju Tinubu Presidential Campaign Organization.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Kashim Shettima, the former governor of Borno State, was chosen as Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the APC presidential nomination.

Following the choice, numerous people, political actors, and organizations have criticized Tinubu, a Muslim, for picking another Muslim as his vice presidential nominee.

Shittu asserted that Tinubu was correct to pick Shettima as his running mate and shouldn’t be punished for it in an interview on AIT on Tuesday.

The APC leader said that 65 percent of those living in the South West are Muslims, adding that his claim was supported by data.

According to the previous minister of communications, the controversy surrounding the Muslim-Muslim ticket was motivated by religion rather than qualifications.

Shittu urged Nigerians to disregard religious emotion, saying that no one is raising a fuss about the Christian-Christian ticket in the states of Ekiti, Ondo, and Edo.

He said: “In the South-West of Nigeria, the Muslims constitute an average of 65% of the population.

“It is on the basis of religion that people are making noise about the so-called Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“In Ekiti, it is a Christian-Christian ticket. In Ondo, it is a Christian-Christian ticket. In Edo, where the Northern part of the state is largely Muslim, it is a Christian-Christian ticket. Nobody is making noise about this.”

Shittu also discussed the APC’s failure in the Osun State governorship election, stating that Gboyega Oyetola’s loss was a huge disappointment.

The former minister continued by saying that given the multitude of elements that went into the development, the loss was not entirely unexpected.
