Ademola Adeleke, the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for governor, was given the certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday. Adeleke had won the gubernatorial election in Osun State on July 16.

Adeleke and the deputy governor-elect, Kola Adewusi, received the certificate from Prof. Kunle Ajayi, national commissioner for INEC, who oversees the states of Osun, Ogun, and Oyo.

72 hours after Adeleke defeated incumbent governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, the electoral body handed out the certificate.

The governor-elect dedicated his victory in the governorship race to the memories of his late elder brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, and the people of the state while taking the certificate at a brief ceremony conducted at the Osun INEC head office in Osogbo.

This occurs just a few hours after Adeleke was declared the PDP candidate by the Court of Appeal in Akure.

Recall that Sen Adeleke was chosen as the PDP candidate in the national leadership’s primary after Dotun Babayemi, a candidate in the governorship primary, challenged the legality of the process in court.
