The Federal Government Appoints New Medical Director For Enugu Orthopaedic Hospital

According to a statement made accessible to our reporter in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Health, a new Medical Director has been appointed for the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Enugu State.

The announcement, written by A. Chindaya, the ministry’s Deputy Director of Public Relations, stated that the Minister of State for Health, Joseph Ekumankama, gave the letter of appointment to the newly appointed medical director, Emmanuel Iyidobi.

“The Honourable Minister of State for Health, Joseph Ekumankama, has charged the newly appointed Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital Enugu to improve on the achievements of his predecessors to enable for continuity and smooth running of the hospital.

“Hon. Ekumankama gave this charge while conveying a letter of appointment on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari to Dr. Emmanuel Chino Iyidobi as the substantive Medical Director of NOHE, for an initial term of four (4) years with effect from 6th July, 2022, on Wednesday 20th of July, 2022 at the Minister of State’s Conference Room, Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja.
“The Minister of State for Health, while congratulating the MD, informed that he had witnessed situations where people were appointed in acting capacity but never had the opportunity of being confirmed. ‘It is a thing of joy that you have been confirmed and I expect that the entire management and staff of the hospital will see the much desired change. I want to believe that you will work hard to ensure that the hospital continues to provide quality healthcare services’, he said.

“Speaking further, Hon. Ekumankama reminded the MD of the enormous responsibilities of the office and the expectations of the government and people of the state from him. He urged him to improve on the achievements already attained by his predecessors as well as justify the confidence reposed in him, by working with all stakeholders and prioritising the welfare of staff for optimal quality service delivery in support of Mr. President’s Next Level Agenda of revamping the health sector towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

“The newly appointed MD, NOHE, Dr. Emmanuel Iyidobi, who expressed appreciation to Mr. President and the Ministry of Health for finding him worthy of his appointment, pledged to take seriously the agenda of Mr. President for the health sector by running an all-inclusive leadership, that will ensure excellent service to patients, welfare of staff, progress in the hospital maintained, while building on what his predecessors have done. He promised to work in line with the National Strategic Health Development Plan to make certain that quality services are delivered to Nigerians at the lowest possible cost.”

The statement also noted that, prior to his appointment as the substantive MD, “Dr. Iyidobi has held several administrative positions at the hospital some of which include: Chairman, Institute of Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgery Development Committee; Chairman, Pressure Treatment and Prevention Committee; Member, Drug Revolving Fund; Member, Arthroplasty Revolving Fund Committee; a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons and the present Head, Clinical Services Consultant Special Grade 1 (Orthopaedic/Spine Surgery) NOHE.”
