Some remorseful insurgents have cleaned up neighborhoods all around Maiduguri, the state capital of Borno State, to demonstrate their ingenuity.
According to Anaedoonline.ng, the sanitation exercise was conducted by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) in coordination with the Borno State Government in an effort to get the refugees ready for their reintegration procedure.
Some of the penitent rebels sported T-shirts that read, “Please forgive us. We have apologetic. Let’s reconstruct Borno once more.

Mala Mustafa, senior research fellow at CDD, commented on the activity, saying that it aims to alter participants’ perceptions and get them ready for the reintegration process.
Mustafa said: “The rationale behind this exercise is for CDD to support the Borno state government as part of preparatory work for the reintegration of the ex-combatants.
“We felt it is imperative to change the narrative, particularly the negative perception about them among community members.
We want to rebuild relationship and trust between those that surrendered and community members.”
