Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, would not be leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, according to well-known Nigerian journalist Babajide Otitoju, despite the current crisis engulfing the party.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the divide in the party started after Abubakar Atiku defeated his closest competitor, Wike, with 371 of the 767 recognized votes, defeating Wike with 237 votes, at the presidential primaries conducted on May 27, 2022.

There were rumors that Atiku will offer Wike the vice presidential position to appease him following the primaries.

Reconciliation efforts between the two politicians have been unsuccessful because Wike and other party stakeholders want Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman, to step down in order to restore peace.

There have been rumors that Wike will leave the PDP because of recent meetings he has had with APC chieftains.

Otitoju asserted during the most recent episode of “Issue with Jide” that Wike is just playing games and won’t defect from the PDP.
