The National Broadcasting Commission ordered the closure of 52 broadcasting companies, including African Independent Television, Silverbird Television, and broadcasting organizations run by several state governments, on Friday.
According to NBC, the directive became necessary due to debts acquired by the broadcasting organizations totaling at least N2.6 billion.
The Director-General of the NBC, Balarabe Ilelah, disclosed this to journalists at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja. He said all the television and radio stations affected must halt operations in the next 24 hours.
