The Amalgamated Arewa Youth Groups (AAYG) have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to dismiss Timipre Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum, as well as Mr. Adokiye Tombomelye, Group Executive Director, Upstream of the NNPC LTD, for prioritizing ethnic and regional interests over those of the nation when a pipeline surveillance contract worth more than N4 billion per month was given to Mr. Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tom.

Mele Kyari, GMD NNPC, was also asked for to be fired in a statement released by Comrade Victor Duniya, spokesman for AAYG, for using his position to promote criminality and treasonous tendencies rather than patriotism.

The statement asked, “That President Muhammadu Buhari should sack His Excellency, Timipre Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum, Mr Adokiye Tombomelye, Group Executive Director, Upstream of the NNPC LTD, for promoting ethnic and regional interest over national interest and Mele Kyari, GMD NNPC for using his office to reward criminality and treasonable tendencies instead of patriotism.”

The group claimed it was shocked when it learned Tompolo had been given a pipeline surveillance contract for more than four billion naira per month.

The contract, according to the statement, is intended to put an end to illegal bunkering, illegal refining, and other types of oil theft in the Niger Delta. The statement expressed regret that Tompolo had been listed as wanted by the EFCC in the early days of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and that unrestrained bombing of oil facilities in the Niger Delta was a significant factor in plunging Nigeria into recession.

“It is most unfortunate that the government and management of the NNPC Limited will submit themselves cheaply to the blackmail of a man whose major business initiative is to raise arms against the state and assemble cultists of his region in his country home to do his bidding as the major qualification to be awarded a contract to protect oil installations in the Niger Delta region of our country,” the statement observed.

The assertion claims that people like Tompolo’s seeming victory over the armed forces is a clear case of abandonment of duty and that 100,000 of his kind couldn’t win against 200,000,000 Nigerians.

The group claimed that it is not surprising that General Lucky Irabor, the Chief of Defence Staff, has allowed the Niger Delta solidarity to trump national interest. Irabor should have rallied the Armed Forces to restore peace in the Niger Delta, just as he is doing in the Southeast, South West, and the Northeast, which has been devastated by Boko Haram.

“We are not surprised that both Sylva and Adokiye are from the South-South, who has been acting as saboteurs in the administration they were called upon to serve Nigerians,” the statement also alleged.
