Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president of Nigeria, has urged the youth to elect new leaders if they want to change the course of events.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Obasanjo announced this on Friday during a recent visit by the contentious veteran singer Charles Oputa, better known by his stage as Charly Boy.

Speaking to the legendary musician and activist about the nation, Obasanjo claimed that the current state of the nation was not due to the actions of God, but rather the decision of the government, adding that only the young people would be able to change it.

He said that inadequate leadership is the cause of many people’s poverty and frustration, especially among young people. He pledged to ensure that Nigeria receives the leadership it deserves and that he wouldn’t settle for anyone who wouldn’t carry out what they had promised to do.

When asked to advise “frustrated Nigerians” Obasanjo said, “That we are frustrated and poor is not the fault of God, it is the choice of our leaders. And if you have to change that, change our situation, you have to change leadership. I always say, Nigeria is my own baby, the one I want to put a beautiful bead on its waist, not an individual.

“In the north they say, ‘La mu la muni’. ‘Tiwa n tiwa’, in south-east, it’s ‘Nka bu ka nyi.’ Now, that is not the issue, the issue is Nigeria.”
