The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is striving to redress the apparent imbalance caused by the selection of Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for 2023, according to Senator Walid Jibrin, chairman of the BoT of the PDP.

Jibrin said on Sunday that it is important to closely evaluate the PDP’s national chairman and presidential candidate both from the same region.

He did, however, add that a committee is already working on it and that after the committee turns in its report the next week, action will be made to solve the issue.

The fact that the PDP Bot Chairman, PDP National Chairman, and PDP presidential candidate are all from the north as things stand right now has alarmed several party stakeholders.

Jibrin, commenting on the circumstance, stated that the PDP national caucus, Board of Trustees, and national executive committee are all awaiting the report of the committee formed to investigate the problem before planning their own meeting to make choices.

Jibrin stated that if necessary, he can step down from his own position to maintain harmony within the party.

“To tell the truth, it will not be fair for the president of Nigeria to be from the north, the chairman of the party from the north and the BoT chairman from the north,” he said.

“By next week we will get the report. And when we find out that somebody is wrong in what has happened we will come up openly to tell the party that it is wrong. Whatever we can do, we will do it in the interest of the party to make the party remain as PDP.”
