On Tuesday, the Federal Government signed a contract with the United States of America for the repatriation of $23 million in assets that former Nigerian leaders, notably the late General Sani Abacha, had stolen.

Abubakar Malami (SAN), the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, signed the agreement on behalf of the Federal Government, and Mary Beth Leonard, the US Ambassador to Nigeria, signed on behalf of the US government.

The AGF, in his speech shortly before signing the agreement, said the recovered assets, which were made possible with the cooperation of the governments of United States and United Kingdom would be used in the infrastructural development of the country.
