The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State’s top leadership has barred its members from supporting candidates from other political parties.

It would be considered anti-party to do so, according to Sir Nobert Obi, the APGA’s chairman for the state of Anambra. He issued the warning in a press statement that was distributed to all local government area and ward chairmen as well as members of the State Working Committee.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the warning might have been sent as a result of Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, receiving widespread support from all major parties in the State.

The party’s chairman noted that he had been made aware of a number of unwholesome behaviors by some party members (APGA) who are running for office.

He noted that, “You may wish to know that it is wrong for any member to campaign, solicit votes, or attend any activity organized by other political parties or their candidates other than our great party APGA.

“Such development is considered anti-party activity and an act of indiscipline in breach of Article 21, General Code of Conduct of our great party.

“There are several cases of members belonging to WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media platforms that promote and campaign for candidates of other political parties. Not a few even go as far as sharing posts that promote candidates who are not APGA members”, the chairman further pointed out.

The Chairman highlighted that such behavior was contrary to the APGA’s overall interests, which included sweeping the general elections in 2023, particularly in Anambra State, where the party is running candidates for every elective position.

According to the party’s constitution, such behavior would be met with serious disciplinary punishment, he said.
