Following allegations from some News media, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has halted the recruitment of constables for the Nigerian Police Force.
The suspension comes less than 24 hours after Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, objected to the commission’s decision to launch a portal for police constable recruitment.
The Commission responded on Tuesday by confirming that there are problems between the police force and the commission in a statement released by its spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani.

In order to allow the Commission time to resolve its concerns with the police authority, he urged Nigerians who had expressed interest in joining the Force not to apply for the position just yet.
According to the statement, the Police Service Commission noted the publication of the Nigeria Police Force with regard to the 2022 Constable recruitment exercise, adding that “the Commission wishes to state that all contending issues around the exercise will be resolved between the two parties in the interest of the nation.”
The statement pleaded for patience from all candidates and other Nigerians interested in joining the Nigeria Police Force while these problems were fixed.
The commission, he continued, will keep working to create a police force that Nigerians could be proud of.
