On Tuesday, the Indigenous People of Biafra criticised Professor Onyeka Nwelue, one of the organisers of the 2022 James Currey Literary Award at Oxford University in London, for inviting Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma to the event.

The group said that Nwelue shouldn’t pretend ignorance regarding the alleged injustices done to Imo State residents and that it was disrespectful to the annual ceremony to have Uzodimma attend an event that was supposed to be attended by luminaries like Professor Wole Soyinka and the late Chinua Achebe.

The group’s Director of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful, made this known in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement noted that Uzodimma’s invitation “is not only shameful but a spite on the grave of the formost Biafra heroic writer Professor Chinua Achebe who was an associate of Professor James Currey in whose honor the event is being held.”

Warning the professor, IPOB said, “Acclaimed Prof. Nwelue should be guided so that IPOB will not cook food for him that he can’t finish. If he still cherishes his Igbo ancestry, he should listen to these words of advice and reason.”
