Along with Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, dozens of elected officials and political figures joined the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and declared their loyalty to it.
They indicated their willingness to do everything it took to make sure the NNPP won the elections in Kano and across the nation in 2023.
Shekarau, a former governor and lawmaker for Kano Central, has rejoined the PDP (PDP).

In a statement released after a meeting on the defection on Tuesday, roughly 45 politicians reaffirmed their commitment to the NNNP, which is run by presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The Karaye/Rogo federal constituency representative in the House of Representatives, Haruna Isa Dederi, signed it.
Dederi reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to the party and her willingness to help the former minister succeed in the upcoming election.
The lawmaker also bragged about how the NNPP maintained an unmatched level of support and leadership emphasis.
“We urge all our people to continue to cooperate with us so that we can redirect the affairs of our State for the betterment of its people, as well as to save the nation from the state of near collapse,” he said.

The statement further noted that the constitution guarantees every person the opportunity to choose how to exercise their right to free association.
The parley was attended by NNPP senatorial candidate for Kano South Sulaiman Kawu Sumaila, NNPP deputy governorship candidate Abba Kabir Yusuf, and NNPP governorship candidate Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Others were Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, a federal legislator representing Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure; Haruna Makoda, a former chief of staff to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje; and Nura Muhammad Dankadai, a former commissioner of budget and planning.
