INEC Releases Date To Release Final List Of Presidential, Governorship Candidates

A date has been set for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish the final lists of candidates for governor and president.

On Thursday in Abuja, INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu announced the dates.

Conducting Nigeria’s 2023 Elections in a Volatile Security Environment was the focus of a meeting in Abuja hosted by the Centre for Democracy and Development.

The final list of prospective presidential contenders for the 2023 election will be made public on September 20th, according to Yakubu.

He added that on October 4th, the panel will reveal the list of candidates for governor.

Before the national elections in 2023, Yakubu used the occasion to exhort political parties and their candidates to concentrate on issue-based campaigns.

The INEC Chairman further stated that the electoral body would cooperate with law enforcement to guarantee a secure election.

Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate; Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate; Peter Obi, the Labour Party flagbearer; Rabiu Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria Peoples Party presidential candidate; and a number of others would be hoping to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
