The Ghana Football Association has cancelled Black Galaxies’ friendly match against FC Samartex ahead of their final African Nations Championship qualifier against Nigeria on Saturday.

The GFA announced the news on their Twitter account.

The decision to cancel the friendly was made to allow coach Annor Walker’s team to focus on their crucial match against Nigeria on Saturday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Ghana hold a 2-0 advantage from the first leg and will hope to get the job done when they travel to Nigeria for the second leg.

According to the federation, the Black Galaxies will travel to Abuja on Friday ahead of the return leg of the CHAN qualifier.
The Galaxies were initially scheduled to face the newly promoted Ghana Premier League side at the Cape Coast stadium on Thursday.

The game would have been the team’s last friendly match in Cape Coast, having played King Faisal in another warm-up game, before travelling to Accra on Thursday for the trip to Abuja.

“The Black Galaxies friendly match against FC Samartex 1996 has been cancelled. The team will continue with preparations for their return encounter against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Abuja,” GFA tweeted.

Should Salisu Yusuf’s men fail to overturn the result in Abuja, it would be the second time in six months that Ghana would stop Nigeria from taking part in major football competitions after the Black Stars denied the Super Eagles a chance to participate at the Qatar 2022 World Cup earlier this year.

Next year’s edition of the CHAN tournament holds in Algeria.
