Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP’s national chairman, declared on Friday that he would not criticize Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State.

Since Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, defeated Wike in the party’s presidential primaries, Ayu and the governor of Rivers State have not been on friendly terms.

After Atiku emerged as the party’s front-runner, Wike had demanded that Ayu step down from his position.

The governor of Rivers State stressed that Ayu must leave before he can back Atiku’s bid for the presidency.

Wike stated that it is unjust for the party chairman and the presidential candidate to be from the same region.

Ayu promised not to resign in an interview with the BBC on Wednesday, saying that he would not permit those asking for his resignation to ruin the party.

In reaction, Wike referred to Ayu as ungrateful and said that Ayu had been recruited to serve as PDP chairman.

Ayu said that the reports against him on social media are untrue in a statement sent through his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Simon Imobo-Tswam.

He went on to declare that he would not comment on Governor Wike’s statement.

The statement reads, “We state, categorically and without equivocation, that the posts are completely false. Even the inelegant construction of the posts puts them beneath Ayu.

“Ayu never said anything after Wike’s statements yesterday, and does not intend to say anything in response.”
