Claims that former president Olusegun Obasanjo is endorsing Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi have been rejected by the Tinubu Campaign Organization.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Obi and Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s (LP) candidates for president, met with Obasanjo on July 17.

Obasanjo and Obi met in London on August 25 with Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, and a few other PDP governors.

Obasanjo is not endorsing any candidate, according to Bayo Onanuga, the spokesman for the Tinubu Campaign Organization, who was speaking with Newsmen.

According to Onanuga, all of the presidential aspirants have been meeting with Obasanjo in his capacity as an elder statesman to get his blessing rather than to ask for his support in the 2023 race.

He said: “Obasanjo has said he is not supporting any candidate. So don’t put words in his mouth. As an elder statesman, all aspirants have been going to him to seek his blessing, not even support. Peter Obi went there, and Tinubu did the same thing.

“Before the presidential primary, Tinubu also went to see Ibrahim Babangida. This is what they all do. A few days back, Tinubu went to see Jonathan. They are elder statesmen who are now beyond partisan politics, and Obasanjo is not different. He has not endorsed any candidate because he is a father to everybody.”
