On Tuesday, there was an accident at the Building Materials Junction in Ogbunike, Anambra State, which is located on the Onitsha-Awka Expressway.

A Haojue motorbike (Private) with the licence plate number QD618URU and an unidentified driver of a Mercedez Benz commercial vehicle with the registration number ASB280ZH from the Do Good transport firm were both engaged in the collision, which happened at around 12:50 p.m.

The driver of the truck and two of his passengers fled in order to avoid being lynched, while the motorbike rider died in the collision.

It was gathered that the probable cause of the accident was route violation.

According to eyewitness, the truck driver, who drove against traffic and hit the bike rider, crashed, abandoned his truck and ran away with two of his passengers in the truck.

The Federal Road Safety Corps personnel from the RS5.33, Nteje, took the dead victim to the Iyi-Enu Hospital in Ogidi where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty and the corpse deposited at same hospital mortuary.

The FRSC men on the ground managed the traffic caused by the crash and ensured the obstructions caused was cleared.

Confirming the accident, the state Sector Commander, Adeoye Irelewuyi, who attributed it to route violation, sent his condolences to the deceased family.

He warned motorists to desist from route violation as it’s amounts to dangerous driving.

“Motorcylist should avoid plying the expressway because they are not permitted by law to use the E
expressways,” he added.
