A member of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) has charged that Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, is engaging in political posturing by calling for the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman.
He questions why Ayu’s departure is being seen differently by the former vice president and the party’s national leader.
The BoT member claims that Atiku wants Ayu to leave office following the 2023 elections, but Ayu has insisted on serving a full four years.
Atiku has plenty to lose if he waits to take action, the BoT member who asked to remain unnamed cautioned Newsmen.
In addition, he said that the party’s National Chairman was free to split the party into North and South.
However, the PDP chairman stated that party members in the South-West were eagerly awaiting their arrival to conduct a campaign.
He pointed out that if Southerners were in possession of crucial positions in the party, those who were criticizing Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike for calling for Ayu’s resignation would do the same.
The party leader urged Atiku to lead by example, stating that his failure to end the situation proves he is unfit to govern Nigeria.
He asserted that after Ayu leaves power, there would be harmony in the party.
