The former chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Walid Jibrin, was allegedly forced to retire by PDP members, according to Olaka Nwogu, a party chief.
The former congressman claims that Jibrin was pressured into leaving so that Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman, could continue in power.
The BoT chairman announced his resignation at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday in Abuja, according to a previous report by Anaedoonline.ng.

Speaking on Arise TV on Friday, Nwogu claimed that Jibrin’s office was unaffected by the situation at the party.
He added that Jibrin was forced out in order to give the impression that the South had been given the reins.
The northerners gaining possession of delicate posts in the party had sparked protests.
Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, Ayu, Aminu Tambuwal, Jibrin until his resignation, and the party’s national chairman are all from the North.
Prior to the 2023 general elections, the administration of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike had asked that Ayu quit and be replaced with a person from the south.

Speaking further about the situation within the party, Nwogu claimed that Jibrin was under intense pressure and had no choice but to give his resignation.
The former lawmaker who lamented Jibrin’s retirement pointed out that pressure had grown on him (Jibrin) to keep Ayu in charge.
