The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has demanded the arrest of Festus Keyamo, SAN, Minister of State for Labour, for his statement accusing Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi of plotting his assassination.
According to Anaedoonline.ng, Keyamo said in a statement on Monday that Obi was planning to stage an assassination attempt on himself and hire supporters dressed in APC caps and T-shirts to attack some of his party’s offices.
In response to Keyamo’s allegation, Obi’s Media Aide, Emeka Obasi, called it “false.”
In a statement, the group insisted that Keyamo provide evidence of the alleged assassination.
HURIWA demanded that President Muhammadu Buhari remove him from his position as a minister, stating that a junior minister cannot hold a publicly funded office while also serving on the staff of the All Progressive Congress’s Presidential candidate.
The rights group argued that it was unethical and unconstitutional because one person cannot receive both public and private funds while also performing strictly private partisan duties for the APC.
HURIWA insisted that, given Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s near-assassination in Anambra State by armed attackers, Keyamo’s reckless statement should not be overlooked.
