Senator Iyorchia Ayu, National Chairman of the People Democratic Party (PDP), has explained why the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, chose Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate over Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Ayu stated this while speaking at the Northern Christian Youth Assembly Summit in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to the PDP National Chairman, Atiku chose Okowa for his humility and outstanding performance in office.

His words: “We looked around and we thought we have to give not just a vice president that will assist him (Atiku) but we did our homework to select a man who is highly educated, very humble, and who has done very well as a governor in his home state.

“Okowa is the most qualified running mate. It is on his own personal merit that he was selected by the party as the vice presidential candidate to Atiku Abubakar. I think Nigeria will be very lucky to have two such people who are committed to development who are detribalised who believe in uniting this country”

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike is enraged by the manner in which he lost the presidential primary to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the failure of the former Vice President to select him as running mate.

Governor Wike and his supporters have demanded that the PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, resign in order to resolve the party’s internal squabbles.

However, Ayu has rejected the governor’s demand, stating that he will not resign from his position.
