Imo State residents have voiced dissatisfaction with President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the state on Tuesday to commission projects.
They called the President’s second official visit to the state a waste of resources that could have gone to other essential state needs.

A tailor, Kingsley Ojukwu, a businessman, Chief Donald Ijezie, a hair stylist, Mrs. Gertrude Umunna, and a legal practitioner, Uchenna Uzoukwu, among others who spoke to The Guardian about the visit, said that hosting the President on the day people were observing a sit-in in solidarity with Nnamdi Kanu’s court appearance was ill-conceived and insensitive to people’s safety.

Ojukwu said: “ Buhari may have a genuine intention for his visit, but hosting him on a day we were asked to sit at home by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) exposes him and his host as insensitive to the safety of the people, especially those who risked their lives to come out to receive him to the state.”

On his part, Uzoukwu said: “I understand that the cost of Buhari’s visit runs into hundreds of millions of naira, and I thought that it would have been more beneficial if that money had been used for the execution of any other important project in the state. And to know that some of these projects the president came to the commission are still uncompleted is most unfortunate and a total waste of state resources.”

However, Uzodimma, in his speech during the visit, commended the president for always responding to his invitation to commission projects executed by his administration, stressing that the visits were a demonstration of his genuine love for the Imo people, as well as his commitment to the development of the state.

He assured that the people of Imo would continue to support the Federal Government.
