Moves have been made to put an end to the crisis roiling the opposition party by the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential campaign organization and governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, and the director general of the organization and governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal.

While Tambuwal is anticipated to utilize his position to motivate the governors to seek peace in the party, This Day reports that Udom Emmanuel has started reconciliatory negotiations with a meeting conducted with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

A genuine reconciliation with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue, and Governor Seyi Makinde, among other resentful governors, has reportedly been demanded by Governor Emmanuel, according to reports.

Recall that the disgruntled governors and their supporters requested the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to put pressure on Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman, to quit so that a person from the south could lead the party.

According to sources close to the NWC, after Emmanuel accepted his position as the chairman of the presidential campaign committee, Samuel Anyanwu, the PDP’s national secretary, led a delegation of NWC members to meet with him.

Ayu was requested to leave the nation so that his presence would not jeopardize the peace discussions when Atiku Abubakar was supposed to meet with Governor Makinde and other members in Ibadan, Oyo State, according to a source.

“Since the crisis is revolving around him, it was agreed that he should take a vacation to give peace a chance and see how far we can go,” the source added.

In the meantime, Governor Udom encouraged irate PDP members to put aside their differences and unite for the victory of the party in the general election of 2023 while addressing to reporters at the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo.

The Akwa Ibom State governor asserts that for the PDP to unseat the All Progressives Congress, a unified front is required (APC).

He said: “Let me thank all our party members across the country for this confidence they have in me.

“I also want to say that no one person can do it alone. It involves everybody in all the units, all the wards, and all chapters of our party to come together for the party to move forward.

“I want to use this platform to appeal that if we had made mistakes in the past, we cannot turn back the clock.
