The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) and other stakeholders will meet with the House of Representatives to discuss a long-term solution to the union’s ongoing strike.

This information may be found in a statement made on Monday in Abuja by Mr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Clerk of the House of Representatives.

He announced that the meeting would be held at the National Assembly’s House of Representatives branch on Tuesday.

He stated that the goal of the meeting with ASUU and other important stakeholders was to find a long-term resolution to the ongoing strike that ASUU has been conducting.

According to him, the strike appears to have defied all attempts to find a resolution, and the House of Representatives is extremely concerned about it.

The House, he continued, was worried that the Federal Government and the lecturers on strike had not found a compromise.

He claimed that the House was more concerned about how the strike would affect the future and educational standards of the large population of young people.

He claimed that despite the House’s intervention and the efforts of other well-meaning Nigerians, the youth had been kept at home for the previous six months.

“In the light of the foregoing, the House hereby request for another opportunity to come together with stakeholders and leadership of ASUU to seek an amicable resolution,” he said.

He said that this was without prejudice to the fact that the matter was already in the Industrial Court.
