Senate Orders Police, DSS To Probe Gunmen Attack On Senator Ifeanyi Ubah

The bloody attack on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s convoy on September 11 in the Enugwu-Ukwu community in the Njikoka Local Government Area in Anambra State has been the subject of a comprehensive investigation order from the Senate to the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and other pertinent security agencies.

On Tuesday, an inquiry was ordered in Abuja with the goal of apprehending and prosecuting the offenders.

The Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence and the Senate Committee on Police Affairs were required to receive reports from the security services within two weeks, according to the upper house of Congress.

Following the passage of a motion by Senator Uche Ekwunife (PDP Anambra Central), who expressed grave concern over the attack on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s convoy on September 11, 2022, in Enugu-Ukwu, Anambra State, by gunmen believed to be hired assassins that resulted in the deaths of some security personnel and other members of the senator’s staff, the resolutions were passed.

She bemoaned in particular that the attack on the senator for the Young Progressives Party, YPP, resulted in the horrific murder of two of his longtime personal assistants and two mobile police officers by the gunmen.

The lawmaker noted that “the killings, maiming and wanton destruction of lives have now become a recurring decimal in the South East where unknown gunmen terrorize citizens on a regular basis.”

Senator Ekwunife lamented that to date, no arrest or report has been made in connection with this heinous incident. Okechukwu Okoye (Okey di Okay), a serving member in the Anambra State House of Assembly, was recently kidnapped, murdered, and horrifyingly beheaded.

She was concerned that despite numerous government promises to address the persistent security situation, armed men have persisted to carry out attacks in the South East.

If the federal government did not “intervene promptly, the horrific and brutal killings may continue, consequently putting the people of Anambra State to untold fear and misery,” the senator said.

As a result, the Senate observed a moment of silence in memory of those who perished in the tragic tragedy.

Recall that Senator Ubah acknowledged that some of his personal and security assistants had perished in the attack on his convoy.

The congressman, who revealed the event to reporters on Monday in Awka, claimed the assassins killed Goodness Mathias and one Obum Ikechukwu, and they also killed several of his security personnel from the Police and DSS.

The number of victims was not disclosed by the state commissioner of police, Mr. Echeng Echeng, who visited the area and noticed blood traces.
