Festus Keyamo, the main spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has explained why his principle has yet to agree to a live interview.

This, according to Anaedoonline.ng, is in response to a social media article that quoted Tinubu as claiming he would not be giving live television interviews like his primary competitors since he was “contesting for Nigerian President, not Media President.”

Many Nigerians on social media criticized the former governor of Lagos State for the reported statement, alleging that his unwillingness to conduct live interviews was motivated by his alleged illness and incapacity.

Keyamo, the Minister of State for Employment and Labour, referred to the report as fake news in an interview with Newsmen on Monday.

The Minister noted that Tinubu does not avoid interviews but added that “campaigns have not begun.
He will speak to the nation on numerous occasions.

According to Kehinde Bamigbetan, the deputy director of public affairs for the Tinubu campaign council, live interviews are a tactic used by Tinubu’s opponents and cannot be imposed or coerced onto the APC presidential candidate.

He said, “Tinubu is engaging in consultations. He is visiting and consulting many prominent Nigerians across the country.

“Yesterday (Sunday), he visited former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and his beloved mother in Abuja. His is engaging in consultation, consultation, and consultation and not noise making.”

Bamigbetan stated that the decision to field a Tinubu/Kashim Shettima Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket of the APC was taken in the best interest of the country.

He said: “Both men faced difficult challenges as governors of Lagos and Borno states, respectively and both used their skills to transform their states.

“They turned crises into feats and turned their states into viable states. They are transformers.

“They will transform Nigeria, if elected. This is the best ticket. We are leveraging on their performances in Lagos and Borno.”
